The expectation from a good lawyer is someone who brings justice to anyone regardless of status and social standing. Everyone is equal in the eyes of God, and at the end of the day, it is only Him who can save all souls from sin. It is only Him who can judge our actions, and so as His followers, obeying both the divine and human law is a must.

Oftentimes a lawyer's integrity is questioned because of some shady schemes that's happening during the defense. One will do anything just to win the case regardless of the amount of lies they have to do and speak. A Christian lawyer is ought to bring a fair and due process of legal actions to someone who is in need of help.

Jesus wants every lawyer to defend and protect the innocents and bring justice to them in a righteous way. No poor shall suffer the consequences of a certain action that wasn't actually committed, and no rich people shall celebrate any unethical freedom.

Service Towards Morality

A lawyer working under Christ's commands is a trustworthy and responsible one. The desire to win a case must not cover the truth and live in lies. It is important for a lawyer to create strategic plans that are free from deceit and immorality. It should not involve any encouragement of lying, cheating, and deceiving. A Christian lawyer must be able to ask and evaluate himself whether the actions undertaken are moral and humane. Commitment to the profession and honesty are an incredible character of a great lawyer that has Jesus within him.

Whenever a certain verdict depicts a doubtful procedure, the best way to correct it is to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. Any justice obtained through falsehood is detested by God. As what he said in Proverbs 17:15, “He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord.” However, He blesses those who punish the criminal and bring forth what is due to the oppressed.

When There is Integrity, There is Justice

A Christian lawyer who obeys both human and divine law will assess their service and decisions every time. Integrity is a must for someone who holds justice in their hands. Otherwise, the innocent will suffer and the guilty will escape. The innocent whose freedom was robbed off is a huge disappointment in the eyes of Jesus, especially if it is done by someone who's supposed to give defense. Moreover, a criminal whose crime was absolved can now freely enjoy being outside, and what's worse is doing the same mistake again.

All those can happen when a single lie prevails. As Leviticus 19:15 declares, "You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor."  A Christian lawyer must thrive to judge and help the oppressed in a righteous way. Abuse of power is condemned by God and those who deceive people will not inherit the kingdom of God.

God as the Judge of Salvation

The reason why justice must always be served is because at the end of the day, human errors will be set right by God and He will stand before the people who have experienced injustices. Isaiah 56:1 states: Thus says the Lord: “Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come, and my deliverance be revealed." Lawyers must do their purpose on earth while remaining faithful to God's commands. He who disobeys the law is punished, and He will do the same to those who refuse to follow His words.

Being true to one's profession doesn't only evoke love for what you're doing but also for your neighbors. God wants the people to bind together and fight injustices instead of being the reason to cause trials to someone else. Everyone should learn how to treat each other as if they're brothers and sisters in Christ, for the whole law will be fulfilled in one word: You shall love your neighbor as yourself (Galatians 5:14).

Today Tip of the Day

Having the privilege to serve the people with justice is a noble opportunity for a lawyer to embody. Doing the right thing at all times can change a person's life, while doing the opposite destroys it. When the power someone holds is too great, the responsibility that lies within it must be observed keenly. God entrusted that kind of honor to the lawyers, and as a Christian, it is only right to give glory to His name through due service.
