Building a solid foundation like investing in insurance is one way of securing your future.

Building a solid foundation like investing in insurance is one way of securing your future.

The Message of the Day

Perhaps the only thing guaranteed in this world is the unpredictable nature of circumstances. With The Tower as the tarot card for today, we are cautioned to brace ourselves for the unexpected. This card indicates a change in a rather abrupt way, similar to how a raging storm leaves a mess in its wake. This can be in the form of a loss, tragedy, and accidents. When we find ourselves in this situation, it will usually take time before reality can finally sink into our minds. Then we finally realize that we are already affected by the sudden events before we have even finished processing things. The shock that it brings to us has a huge impact on our physical and mental well-being. No matter how much you try to be prepared for such situations, you will still be taken aback once it happens.

While it is true that there is no such thing as being completely ready for the unexpected, this is not an excuse for not making any preparations at all. There are certain measures you can still do that will serve as a buffer to reduce the severity of the impact. This is where the importance of insurance comes in—to act as a safety net in case anything goes wrong. Incorporating insurance in our everyday lives does not always involve insurance agencies and is not strictly focused on money. Switching to a healthier diet, exercising regularly, and getting a consistent 8 hours of sleep—these little practices are just some of the examples that will serve as our primary insurance for our physical and mental health.

Identify which areas of your life you are the most anxious about. Whether it’s regarding maintaining friendships or financial budgeting, you can set up your very own improvised insurance by coming up with multiple strategies—just in case some of it will fail.

Surviving amidst the Uncertainties in Life

The uncertainties in life are not the only aspect represented in The Tower. In the card, a tower rests on top of a mountain. Although the building looks stable at first glance, it is only when a bolt of lightning struck the tower that the structure started to crumble. If one bolt of lightning is enough to destroy the whole tower, then the problem does not lie in the lightning but in the process of how the structure was built. Just as portrayed in The Tower card, beliefs, relationships, and businesses built on weak foundations will meet a similar fate.

The tower moments in our life occur in multiple forms—accidents, illness, failure, heartbreak, and even the death of a loved one. At some point, we inevitably suffer a huge blow from such devastating events. Specifically regarding health, it is our primary duty to safeguard our well-being to avoid or delay premature death. Thus, it is not surprising why insurance keeps getting recognition and popularity in recent years or decades. It is rightfully so since insurance provides and satisfies the primitive instinct of man which is to survive. Modern-day insurance exists because of the ironic fact that uncertainty is the only thing constant in this world—which consequently means our survival isn't guaranteed either.

However, the health insurances offered by companies are only secondary to the non-negotiables—that is, being proactive in taking care of your health through exercising for instance. Do remember that the physical means of maintaining our health coupled with insurance services as a backup plan are keys to our survival.

The Main Message

Prioritize long-term goals that require hard work over things that provide immediate yet short-term gratification—that is exactly what insurance is all about. Giving up a portion of your money for a monthly contribution will eventually serve its purpose later on in your life when you need it the most. Similarly, enduring the strenuous nature of exercising and religiously maintaining a healthy diet also entails sacrifice. These two work best in providing a stable foundation for our health. In essence, we are practicing delayed gratification when we embrace temporary discomfort in exchange for a long-term benefit.

This approach is also applicable in other aspects of our life. Keeping our impulses under control is possible, albeit rather challenging, and takes a long time. Dismantling old lifestyles that no longer serve a purpose is only fitting to be replaced with practices that have a more useful function and lasting impact. Just like how the lightning destroys the poorly built tower, we wish to do the same on our self-limiting thoughts, actions, and habits which is destructive to ourselves and personal relationships. If we choose to remain stubborn and make substantial changes to these detrimental behaviors, we will eventually experience a tower moment that will hit us like lightning.

Today’s Tip

Get rid of thoughts, habits, people, and things that do not contribute to your growth and future. Slowly replace those self-sabotaging thoughts with constructive criticism. If you have a hard time cutting off toxic people in your life right away, you can try detaching gradually from them. By initiating these positive changes in your life, you are immensely attracting optimistic perspectives which consequently leads to boosting your self-confidence.

There might be some events we wish we can revisit one last time or relive the experience of certain nostalgic memories. While this is all part of being human, taking it to the extreme—fearing change and clinging too much to the past for instance—will only worsen the current conditions even further. Embrace the fluctuations in your life whether it’s good or bad. This also goes the same for the multiple tower moments that we will experience during our lifetime.

It is normal to experience a variety of overwhelming emotions from events associated with The Tower—or simply known as tower moments. We cannot help but spiral downwards into a multitude of mental health issues. As distressing as this circumstance may be, we still have to accept that things happen beyond our control. Even with all our efforts poured into devising countermeasures to avoid the worst-case scenario, rebuilding our respective towers on a firm and better groundwork is perhaps the most preferred way to move forward.
